Yosemite has almost 1,500 campsites in its multiple campgrounds. Some camps are:

Sunrise High Sierra Camp is located on a high alpine meadow and is named after its spectacular morning views as the sun creeps over the mountains.
Merced Lake High Sierra Camp provides a wilderness experience for those who may never experience wilderness in any other way. This camp is the furthest camp located from any trails and is roughly 14 miles of steep hiking. It is next to one of the largest lakes in Yosemite and because of its lower elevation and relatively warm having slightly different vegetation. Hite Cove 4WD Road offers hiking, sight-seeing, gold panning, fishing and camping in the fall. Savage Lundy Trail is a 3 mile trail and is the most difficult trail in the area. South Fork Merced River can be accessed from the jersey dale area where campers can enjoy hiking and four wheel drive activities. Vogelsang High Sierra Camp is the highest of Yosemite's five high sierra camps at 10,300ft. It is located 7.5 miles south of the Tuolumne Meadows and the Tioga Road Ridge making it 13.8 miles round-trip. May Lake High Sierra Camp is the easiest camp to access having to only travel 2.4 miles round-trip and the ridge just behind the camp has a good view of the southern end of Yosemite. It also is popular for photographers and hikers. Glen Aulin High Sierra Camp is 11 miles round-trip to get to, which is about 6 to 8 hours. It is one of the easiest camps to hike and campers can enjoy the sunset with a view of Mt. Conness. |
